Worried about you username and password being hacked and used by some unauthorized user to gain access to your system and perform some transactions? Many of us fear for such incidents and usually tend to keep long passwords so that the hacker would find it difficult to break the password. However if we don’t change our password regularly then at some point of time hacker may get our password.

Usually people don’t change their passwords on a regular basis. This is a wrong practice and can cause problems in future. But today there are many biometric techniques which are coming up to avoid such fraud cases of password theft. These are very beneficial techniques which can help the users across the organization to forget about the passwords and use themselves to identify and authenticate to the machine.

There are many companies such as AuthenTec, validity, UPEK, Atmel, Atrua etc which have manufactured USB Biometric Fingerprint Readers which can be used by the users to scan their finger on the device and get an access to the machine without the need of any username and password. These devices are small in size and are easy to deploy and access.

OmniPass is a software security solution manufactured by Softex Inc. which supports USB biometric fingerprint reader from manufacturers such as AuthenTec, Validity, UPEK, Atmel and Atrua. User has to register itself with the USB fingerprint reader at the first time and then use that device in future for authentication purposes.

With the help of these devices OmniPass works as a Single Sign-On for granting the user access to the machine based on the fingerprint scan achieved. All the fingerprint scans of the organization wide users are stored in a single database in OmniPass. User then just needs to scan the finger which was registered with the USB fingerprint reader to get an access to the machine.

OmniPass won't give the user access to the machine if the user is not identified by the USB fingerprint reader. This creates an advanced level of security around the users identity which cannot be broken or damaged easily by any unauthorized user.
