There are many traditional operating systems which do not support new generation security devices for user identification and user access management. Today new operating systems are coming up which supports different types of devices which are used by people to protect their data.
Biometric recognition techniques are the recent phenomenon which has evolved to protect the users identity and data stored on the machine. Few of these include devices such as Fingerprint, IRIS and Palm scanners, etc. These are considered as the most secured devices and are very difficult to get past through them.
Today laptops have built in fingerprint scanners which scans the finger of the user for giving an access to that user. Operating systems have also been undergoing upgradation process for supporting more and more of such identity access management devices.
Windows 7 is an operating system which supports many biometric fingerprint scanner drivers which includes a wide range of fingerprint devices such as AuthenTec, Validity and UPEK. These devices takes the scans of the users finger and uses it for identifying the user for giving an access to the machine.
OmniPass a Single Sign-On solution which is developed by Softex works with a variety of fingerprint scanners to identify the user and protect the users data which is stored on the machine. OmniPass supports AuthenTec, Validity, UPEK and many more fingerprint sensors. OmniPass is a security software which works in combination with the fingerprint scanners to protect the users identity.
OmniPass gives an option to the user to use a login-id and password, fingerprint scan, or a combination of both to get an access to the machine. Depending upon what the user has selected the user is prompted to enter the details for validating and verifying the user.
OmniPass is a Single Sign-On solution which means that once the user is authenticated with the machine and the user has registered any application or web site the user is not needed to put login-id and password for that application or web site after launch.
OmniPass architecture is flexible enough to support a large number of fingerprint authentication devices which consists of Authentication Engine and Storage Engine. Authentication Engine consists of all the different types of biometric devices for identity access management that OmniPass supports which includes AuthenTec, Validity, UPEK, Atmel and Atrua.
OmniPass has a feature which supports event logging i.e when a client logs into the system, performs any operation such as encryption or decryption of file or folder, accesses any web site the changes are reflected on the enterprise side of the OmniPass.
OmniPass allows to set Authentication Rules for every user for Windows and OmniPass logon, File and Folder encryption and decryption, Application and Web site access, etc. These rules are set by the OmniPass Enterprise user only. The rules which are set for a user cannot be changed by that user.
OmniPass has a feature called as Emergency Override Policy Feature which helps the user to set some questions and answers to login successfully in the system in case if the user forgets the password or the fingerprint is not matching. The user can select any three questions of his choice and use them for loggin into the system by clicking the I cant login link on the OmniPass login Authbar and giving correct answers of the questions selected by the user previously.
OmniPass has now been supporting different types of Web Browsers such as Internet Explorer version 6 upto verion 9 and Mozilla Firefox version 3 on the Windows 7 Operating System. Support for more and more web browsers is now been worked upon and soon OmniPass will support many different types of web browsers which will be launched in the future.
