With an increase in the number of computer applications and web sites, there are many passwords which needs to be remembered for each application or web site. You need a password to login to the computer, to use some application, to access your account on the social networking sites or to do some financial transaction on the Internet. Passwords help to protect your computer, application, or a web site account from any unauthorized access.
Passwords can become unmanageable when we need to have different password for different application or web site. Password manager is a software which is a container that holds all your passwords in a safe and secure manner by encrypting them in a user defined format. These password managers now are embedded with websites to automatically enter the login-id and passwords on the fields.
Password managers use the password given by the user to form a key for encrypting the login details for the user. Password managers sometimes use onscreen or virtual keyboard to enter the credentials of the user so as to avoid any key loggers to scan and get the key strokes entered by the password manager on the computer.
Today password managers also contains password generators which generate passwords automatically and use it for user login without the user even coming to know about the password change, they also provides a bunch of tools which helps users to reset their passwords and unlock their accounts on their own.
OmniPass is a security software which does the similar job of password manager. OmniPass stores password and fingerprint scans for the user and gives that user access to the computer and applications which are running on the computer.
After installing OmniPass on the computer the user scans the finger on a fingerprint scanning device so that OmniPass can store that fingerprint in its database and use it for further identification and authentication processes. This identification and authentication becomes necessary for the user to log into the computer for using the application on the machine or on the Internet.
OmniPass supports multiple authentication techniques such as password and fingerprint scan. When a combination of both is used then it is called as multi-factor authentication as more than one means of identification and authentication mechanisms are used for accessing the computer by the user.
OmniPass does not allow the user to access the data until proper authentication is done. Fingerprint scan is one of the best biometric authentication technique as a fingerprint is unique for every individual and it cannot be stolen from anywhere. Moreover users are free from managing numerous passwords and remembering them as one finger print scan can give access to all the applications and web sites.
OmniPass thus works as a password manager which is a Single Sign-On (SSO) and helps the user to scan a finger for identification purpose and then access any application or web site which is registered with that user on OmniPass.
In OmniPass a fingerprint template is created which can be used to remember the passwords for different web sites and applications and store them for future access. The user then has to just swipe the finger on the fingerprint scanner and the users credentials are automatically entered by OmniPass on the login fields. This helps to eliminate the need of typing the username and password for each and every application or web site.
